PORTRAITS OF COLOR
PRE-FALL 2018
We look to the ‘70s and the pioneering work of Op-Art painter Bridget Riley for our inspiration for the season. Her portraits of color inspired these pieces, which are part of a modern, urban wardrobe for a woman who is unafraid of standing out.
It’s all in the details with soft-puff sleeves, micro-rib textures and bolder proportions. The color palette we chose creates painterly blocks of richly pigmented hues, including deep amethyst, vivid coral, golden olive, and optic pairings of crisp black and ivory.

INSPIRATION
Bridget Riley (painter) was a pioneering woman of the Op Art movement that began in the ‘60s and evolved throughout the ‘70s. Her painterly exploration of the interaction between black, white, and saturated pure colors created a sense of depth and movement. Her portraits of color inspire this delivery, it’s the dawn of a new way to wear color as we explore a modern urban wardrobe unafraid of standing out.
Retro diversions of color and streamlined separates, push modern power dressing as W+W plays with classic knits in an unexpected juxtaposition of color, paneled micro textures and dynamic banded stripes. Mixed retro ribs, A- line to soft rounded puff sleeves, and soutache markings all play into Riley’s optic forms, that make for one of a kind pieces.
Yarns are crisp, clean, and soft, the perfect medium for stand out color. Colors are used in innovative and enchanted layers creating painterly blocks of offset rich pigmented hues. Purple tinted colors feel fresh as we introduce Deep Plum, Lilac Pink, which are offset by vivid coral, golden olives, and optic pairings of delineating black and ivory. -
